Foster Connection & Collaboration
Create opportunities to connect across disciplines and institutions, allowing collaborative research projects to emerge organically.
Peer-led academic community
Connecting researchers, writers, and students in the social sciences and humanities, including shared learning on AI, research practice, and academic communication.
About NSN
NSN creates space for scholars to share research, test ideas, learn emerging tools such as AI, find collaborators, and move through academic life with a stronger peer community.
The Northeast Scholars Network is a community-driven collective for scholars in the social sciences and humanities, hailing from Northeast India and across the country. It was born from the understanding that the academic journey, while rewarding, can also be isolating.
This is not a top-down mentorship program but a circle of peers. Members support one another through proposal development, writing, publication, fieldwork, presentation, and the everyday uncertainties of academic work.
Our mission is to create an inclusive space where scholars can share work, exchange ideas, learn responsible uses of AI in research and writing, and receive support at every stage of their academic journey.
Objectives
The network is guided by shared learning, reciprocity, and practical support for scholars at different stages.
Create opportunities to connect across disciplines and institutions, allowing collaborative research projects to emerge organically.
Encourage thoughtful discussions on research topics, methods, findings, and the intellectual questions shaping Northeast India studies.
Share guidance for the research lifecycle, from proposals and fieldwork to writing, publication, and presentations.
Provide platforms for public scholarship, policy-relevant discussion, and visibility for emerging scholars and their work.
Sessions
NSN sessions are designed to be practical, generous, and intellectually serious without becoming intimidating.
Peer-led sessions for research proposals, thesis chapters, article drafts, and conference abstracts.
A constructive space to present ongoing work and receive feedback from scholars across fields.
Short practical sessions on archives, fieldwork, academic databases, AI tools, publishing, and presentations.
AI & Research
AI is becoming an important part of research practice. NSN treats it as something scholars need to understand critically, ethically, and practically.
The network explores how AI can support literature searches, note-making, research planning, writing revision, presentation preparation, and public scholarship while keeping scholarly judgement, citation ethics, and intellectual responsibility at the centre.
Understanding what AI tools can and cannot do, where they help, and where they can mislead.
Using AI for brainstorming, organisation, and revision without replacing evidence, fieldwork, or careful reading.
Learning how to explain research through talks, short videos, visual summaries, and public-facing writing.
Instagram Videos
The Instagram page extends the network beyond meetings, using short videos to make academic life, research skills, and AI conversations easier to access.
Videos and posts on how AI can support reading, writing, organisation, and research communication when used responsibly.
Short explainers on research habits, academic confidence, proposal writing, and tools that help scholars keep moving.
Updates, reflections, and video-based conversations that help scholarly ideas travel to wider communities.
Follow @northeast_scholars_network for new videos, announcements, and practical research conversations.
Who Can Join
The network welcomes people who want to think, write, and build scholarly community with seriousness and generosity.
Members can join discussions, present work in progress, attend writing and skill-sharing sessions, and help shape future themes. New sessions and calls for participation are shared through the mailing list and Instagram.
Coordination
NSN is shaped by a rotating peer coordination model so the network remains open, participatory, and responsive to members.
Plans session formats, invites speakers or discussants, and keeps events aligned with member needs.
Helps new members find relevant conversations, presentation opportunities, and peer feedback spaces.
Shares updates, calls, and highlights through email and social platforms so the community stays informed.
